RetulState of the art bike fit technology incorporating three main data points in fit theory:

Bike Fits Must be Dynamic
Most bike fit specialists fit riders in a static position. This is because the traditional tools of the trade - tape measures and plumb bobs - don’t allow accurate measurements while the rider is pedaling. Retül captures the rider’s position relative to his pedaling motion, and therefore creates the most realistic replication of the actual pedal stroke and body position when out on the road and trails.

Measurements Must be Accurate
Measurements made by traditional tools have one thing in common: they are subject to human error and therefore can be devastatingly inaccurate. Even slight inaccuracies can completely change the rider’s feel after a ride. The general rule is that if you feel pain, something can probably be changed to eliminate that pain. Retül uses motion capture technology that accurate to within less than a millimeter, creating true objective data which can be utilized by the right fitter for the perfect biomechanical fit.

Biomechanics are Best Assessed in 3-Dimensional Space
Fit data collected in a traditional 2-dimensional plane (i.e. video based systems) is fairly limited because the fitter can only look at one view at a time and those views stand as independent reference points. In order to make the best fit recommendations, the fitter must realize that the front and side view are actually interdependent reference points. In other words, the front and side view must be viewed simultaneously in 3-D in order to see how all the applicable movements of the body are working together.

Retül uses 3-dimensional views to see just these precise mechanics to be able to see knee extension (from side view) in relation to knee wobble (from front view) in order to make the best decisions on adjustments to the cyclist.

How it Works
Using eight (8) anatomical LED markers strategically placed on the wrist, elbow, shoulder, hip, knee, ankle and ball of the foot, the retül sensor gathers information in real time and transmits it to the PC. In real time.

It’s Accurate… to under a millimeter

It’s Objective… no human error

Motion Capture vs. Video Analysis

How is Retül different than the motion analysis systems (i.e. video) my local shop offers?

  • Video analysis is two-dimensional, even with 2 cameras. Motion Capture is three-dimensional which utilzies a 3-D spatial model. A small error is added to the measurement by not including all three dimensions in the calculation process. Small errors make big differences in bike fit

  • Video cameras have a narrow field of view. Retul sensors have a wide field of view. This means that the video camera must be 1-2 meters further away from the rider to capture the full view of the rider.

  • Video analysis places measurement markers on a small 2-D computer screen; Retül places measurement markers on the rider's body using easy to find skeletal landmarks.

  • Video analysis requires that you manually trace each measurement after the fact with your mouse. Retül automatically performs all the measurements instantly with no manual work.

  • Video analysis takes measurements off of one frame of video, which may or may not be a typical position of the rider. Retül averages all the measurements automatically from each stroke of the recording creating a highly refined model of the average movements of the rider.

What Happens at My Bike Fit?

Retül 3-D Motion Capture Technology is grounded in the latest science. We employ the Retül fit system to achieve the perfect balance between performance and comfort on the bike. Retül is a state-of- the-art 3-D motion capture system designed specifically for collecting the most accurate and realistic data for achieving optimal muscle recruitment and preventing injury. As an objective, dynamic data capture device, the Retül fit system allows us to treat each bicycle fit on a case by case basis: your body provides unfiltered, impartial feedback that we then translate directly into the perfect fit. Being a Dynamic fit, meaning the fit is done while you're in motion pedaling at your peak performance level, we can analyze your position and fit to your bike during the time when comfort and performance achievement count the most.

Our Bike Fitting Sessions last approximately 1.5 to 2.5 hours depending on the necessary adjustments needed. Fits include a short interview to gain insight on your personal goals and achievements, your riding style and your level of fitness. We also will ask about current and previous injuries, pain, complaints. A Physical assessment is done oo determine, body structure, flexibility, range of motion and physical limitations. The Fit also includes cleat analysis, cycling specific pedal and saddle choice. Whether you ride a road bike, a Time Trial Bike, or a Cyclocross or Mountain Bike, Retül is designed to take each bike "type" into consideration when performing the fit so that you are fit into the best possible position to achieve optimal performance and comfort for your style of riding. The Dynamic bike fit addresses all concerns, positional issues, and interface with the equipment. The fit includes fore-aft saddle adjustment, saddle height adjustment, cleat adjustment lateral and fore aft, Handle bar width, and angle, lever position, stem length and rise, and handle bar drop. You will also receive a full detailed description of your bike fit analysis including body position angles and bike measurements. Finally we will Zin your bike. With the Zin feature we can capture in precise detail with <1mm all bike measurements in which you'll receive for future reference. With that technology we can also take those precise measurements and fit you to another bike that you may own or purchase later.
